Skiing in Lachtal

Downhill skiing Lachtal

Lachtal is a medium-sized ski resort (1,600 - 2,222 m) in Styria with 35 km of slopes, 10 km of ski trails in open terrain, 2 modern 6-chair lifts and 8 ski tows. The bottom station of the main cable car is set very high (1,600 m) and most of the slopes are equipped with snow guns, so you can easily ski in winters with less snow or at the beginning and end of the season. Our Veselý Svišť Chalet is located by the blue slope 1a and the nearest chairlift is just a few hundred meters away on skis. The chalet is right in the middle of the resort, so it's no problem to stop at noon for lunch or stop with the kids at any time during the day at the chalet.

Lachtal also offers a nice children's ski resort for young skiers equipped with a long traveling children's carpet. Upon arrival to the main chairlift you will find a ski equipment rental. If you want to go for lunch or coffee, there are many pleasant cottages with restaurants right on the slopes in Lachtal. The nearest is Grossa Almstadl, which has a large terrace and is about 150 meters away from our chalet, so you can visit it for a beer after skiing. You can find more information on the official website and prices of tickets see here.

Other Ski resorts around

Alternatively, you can also go skiing to the nearby partner ski resort Kreischberg or other nearby resorts. For weekly stays, an interesting option is to ski once in the giant ski  resort 4Berge Ski resort in Schladming. It is just over an hour by car to the large car park at the Hauser Kaibling cable car.

Cross country skiing, sledge, ski touring and SPA

In addition to downhill skiing, Lachtal also offers a shorter, modified cross-country skiing circuit, a smaller ice rink and a 1.5 km long illuminated toboggan run from Hirzmann Alm down to Lachtal. Sledges can be rented at Café Hannes and there is one available in the chalet. Skialpinists can take advantage of the high chalet position for easy access to the ridge and a lot of free terrain off the slopes above the forest boundary for downhill runs or just get conditional access to the slopes in the evening after skiing with children. The Lachtal ski resort also provides entertainment and organizes various masked runs, children's programs, and spectacular fireworks on New Year's Eve also with the involvement of snow cats. In bad weather, a visit to the thermal pools in Aqua Therme Fohnsdorf is a pleasant diversion.
